Notes from the VC: In the Spring Series two, race two, Volare fouled Anahi, and was disqualified, after conceding. The BLSC Spring Racing Rules state that disqualifications cannot be thrown out. However, the ISAF Racing Rules state that the committee can overrule the club race instructions if it provides a more equitable resolution. On appeal of the previous decision, the committee ruled that Volare was disqualified but that the disqualification was eligible to be discarded. Consequently, Volare’s score was the number of boats racing plus one, or a score of 4, which was then eligible to be discarded.
In Spring Series four, race two, Dreamer was protested by Cure for Dreams, the protest committee found that Dreamer was at fault and should be disqualified. Dreamer’s score of the number of boats racing plus one, or a score of 5, which cannot be discarded.
In both cases, ISAF rules state that in a regatta or series that occur on more than one day that the scoring for disqualification should be the number of boats racing on that day plus one, instead of the number racing in the entire series.
